Good Morning Season Five players!
We're taking a step back this season and offering up some new approaches to how we run the league this season. Before I start the major announcements (and because I have everyone's attention), I'd like to run through a few of these changes. Captains (you're on the list below, check that so you know who you are), please make sure you get an e-mail from the staff today, if you don't, please get in touch with us, staff [at] arsleague [dot] com.
First things first, here is our captains list for Season 5:
theReverend
Jirf
omnova
Sauce
ender
You five will represent the league this season. The success of this league crutches on captains (and especially players) so please read on.
As stated before, there will be five teams of ten this season. Because we have 54 signups, that means the last four people to signup will be moved to reserve. Signups are closed, so once that reserve pool dries up, there will be no more replenishments. This decision was made because of issues we saw last season with constant drops. We're hoping that this approach will put more weight on the decision to drop. This season, over any other, depends on everyone to stay and play through the entire six week season.
One of the biggest changes will be the removal of official presence during each match. Over the past few seasons, the staff has felt that the presence of a league admin in spectator was not a necessary one. Many of us will still be online during match nights, but we may not necessarily be in-game during your match. This puts the responsibility of screenshots and demos in the captain's hands.
The draft will be held next week. The day will be determined after captains put in their feedback.
Preseason will begin on Tuesday, August 10th. One team will be playing twice that week (that team will be chosen randomly).
Regular Season will begin on Tuesday, August 17th.
Map List:
Preseason: cp_freight_rc1b4_final4 (Valve Official)
Week 1: cp_badlands
Week 2: cp_coldfront
Week 3: koth_viaduct
Week 4: cp_mainline_rc5
Week 5: ctf_chaos
Week 6: cp_granary
As always, any questions, please direct them to the staff.

Thanks for all the signups everyone!
The staff is working on all the details right now for this season and should have something announced early this week.
That is, of course, we're still alive after Tuesday, cuz, you know... Starcraft 2 and all.

Just letting everyone know that I'll keep signups/registration open until tomorrow (Saturday) the 24th.
Hopefully this will give those peeps on the fence the time to get signed up.

Registration for Season Five ends on Friday 7/23 at 11:59pm. After this time, the league will not be accepting additional registrations. This is a departure from previous seasons where signing up during the middle of the season to get on the reserved list meant that you could potentially play in front of others who had been waiting since day one.
So far we're sitting at about 45 signups. This will give us enough for four teams of ten and puts five people on the reserved list.
We actually have plenty of captain interest this season. As of yesterday, we hit nine people who are interested in captaining this season.
At this point I'm confident that Season Five will kick off as planned. The minimum we've seen in past seasons has been five teams, but we can live with four. If we can get more registrations, that will simply make things more fun.
Keep'm coming!

Everyone is now welcome to sign up for Season Five of ArsLeague. Previous participants of seasons three and four should have received an e-mail with additional information. To give a synopsis of the e-mail, here’s how we’re running things for captains and teams this season:
"How many teams will there be in Season 5?"
To be frank, we don’t know. In seasons past, we set expectations of signups. We said we needed X amount of signups for X amount of teams. For this season, we’re taking a different approach. We’ll be taking the number of signups and the number of volunteered captains and that’s how we’ll determine how many players and teams we’ll use.
"Oh right, captains. What do I need to know?"
Well, what you need to know is that a captain seat takes some work. Previous season captains will tell you that it’s a good amount of work but it is worth it five times over. It’s rewarding, challenging and sometimes frustrating, but most have left with positive things to say. We encourage those who are looking to be a captain to consider appointing a co-captain. Someone to whom you can lean on for help. This will take some duties off of your shoulders.
Staff will not be “recruiting for captains” this season. We’re asking all of you to mark down your interest of being a captain during registration. If the number of captains runs light, we’ll post something on the site and forums once, and that will be it. If we don’t get enough captains, season five will not move forward.
"So what if we meet our captain requirement but get a butt load of signups?"
This season will have 10 player teams. If we get, say, 6 captains and 90 players to sign up that means that 30 people who registered will not play in Season 5.
"How will the draft work then?"
If the above situation were applied, we would take the first sixty signups during registration and that is the player pool that captains will use to build their team. The excess will be moved to the reserve pool during the season and will be used to fill any vacant spots that will arise. The reserve pool has been and will continue to be drawn from randomly.
Signups will remain open from Today, July 14th through Friday, July 23rd. Captains will be announced that weekend and the draft will occur within the following week. The first game is scheduled to start early August. Hard dates for everything will be set as soon as we have a better idea of how many players and captains we will have.
